Hip hop dancer photoshoot. Take 3

The head shots was the final take of this dancer shoot. It is very important to get the shots that show the real picture of the client’s personality and confidence, because the head shot is the first thing that the casting director looks at.  This is not an easy task to get a client that is already might not be familiar with you or may not be comfortable or not know what to do around the camera. This goes for any time of photography, but more importantly in this case because a job or the first interview might be on the line if the director does not like what he or she sees in the photos.  Here are a couple of head shots that I did that I am really happy with.

After the head shots we decided to do some body shots to showcase her body physique.

At the end of the shoot, she got really comfortable around the camera, so we decided to have some fun and do some dramatic glam-our style images. She took direction well and I think she did great job as a model since she never done this before. We all head a great time shooting this two day project.

I want to thank my wife with her great assistance as always. Amanda who is an awesome makeup artist and great person to work with, and my client Yvonne who is a very talented and beautiful dancer. She did a great job as photos from this and the previous post prove.

A few weeks after the scouting of this location, we came back and completed the photo shoot.  A half an hour into photographing, a state police came by and told us to pack up and leave. He told us that it was too dangerous besides which we also needed a permit to shoot in this location.  We tried to explain that we were not going to take long, but he didn’t want to hear it and left.  I was disappointed and started to pack up, but my wife, who assists me in every shoot, said that we should just keep going.  She said that since it was close to 5pm he was probably doing a final run through before calling it a day a was not likely to return. So I nervously started to shoot again, and she was right. He never came back and we shot til nightfall.  It turned out to be a great day for the shoot after all. Here are some images from the shoot.

Location scouting for a hip hop dancer photoshoot. Take 1

It has been awhile since my last post. I just can not believe how time flew from the last post I did way back in November.  I have been busy photographing and booking events from Bar Mitzvah’s and Bat Mitzvah’s, Baptisms, Anniversary’s and Weddings.  I have a great time doing it and making friends along the way.

I really enjoy photographing artists. I have been fortunate to work with different artist such as musicians, novelist, and recently with dancers. Artist bring there own ideas into the images that they would like to create and it makes a really creative and enjoyable process.

This particular photo shoot was done in two stages.  The first stage is that the dancer needed different type of looks in a clean studio head shots to bring out who she is as a person. The second stage is  to capture the dancer and show case the strengths and abilities as a dancer.

We decided on dong the dance shots in some grungy type of hip hop environment.  My wife and I took a day to look for some cool locations  and found a place that was perfect for what we wanted to do.  Here are some shots of the location.

The last part of the shoot was on this beach, but we lost too much light to make it interesting and it started to get really cold fast.  I took a few shots and we decided to call it a day.

I love shooting places, but I need a human interaction with the environment to make it more interesting for me. My beautiful wife thankfully obliged to pose for me. This shot above and below is a place where I actually took some of the images of the dancer which I will post soon.

On the technical note, the shot below is taken with an 8 stop variable density filter, which is a cool tool to have in your bag to get these types of shots during 3 o’clock sun. I will post about in the future.

Another cool setting that I did not use because it was a bit too tight for the dance pose shots, but it came out real nice for a portrait.

Stay tuned for Take 2
